Local communities give support to Gulu pilgrims

Catholic pilgrims are continuing with their trek to Namugongo in Kampala, having set off from Diima at 5:30am. By 8am they had passed Nanda sub-county in Kiryandongo district, covering over 105Km since they left Guru two days ago. Among them is 9-year old Gifty Aketowanga from Gulu, the youngest pilgrim so far. The pupil of Lacor Parents Primary school in Gulu is accompanied by her parents. There is also a 12-year old boy from Pader and another 13-year-old from Rachkoko in Pader district. The oldest pilgrims include a 71-year-old man and an 80-year-old woman from Kitgum. The team has been welcomed with lots of jubilation from people standing along the road. Others offered items, including food, fruits, drinking water, and money among others as a sign of solidarity. Some of them have already developed blisters on their feet, while others are experiencing muscle pains, but they say they are committed to complete the journey in two weeks. They plan to spend the night in Bweyale in Masindi district. NELSON OMOYA is travelling with them.#NTVNews
