Community Discussion About Decency

by Kitty Jellinek
Ten Years ago I published the following article. I am publishing it again, here today, as I believe it is just as pertinent in 2015 as it was in 2005. At a fundraising dinner for a school that serves learning disabled children, the father of one of the students delivered a speech that would never be forgotten by all who attended. After extolling the school and its dedicated staff, he offered a question. “When not interfered with by outside influences, everything nature does is done with perfection. Yet my son, Shay, cannot learn things as other children do. He cannot […]

Merry Christmas To The Community Of Mikode

by Kitty Jellinek
I want to take this opportunity to thank all our loyal subscribers and readers for participating in interactions at Mikode. I especially want to thank Dr. John Carlyle and his wife; without their financial support over the past three years this site would not exist. Wishing everyone peace, love and joy over the Christmas festive season and for the New Year 2015.

Social Networks Bringing People Together like Never Before

by Kitty Jellinek
The Hungarian government wants to implement an ‘internet tax’. What’s the best way to start a riot? Let me help you out…suppress free speech. It’s possibly the number one reason people protest. And if the crowds face heavy handed control measures, these protests sometimes turn into full blown riots. Communities rally with greater force now than ever before thanks to social networks. Today, if your cause is engaging enough, it’s easy to rally the troops. A strong social media collective can be as powerful as a state army. In fact, using social networks is the best way to start a […]

Mikode Local Community Networks a Boon for Local Business Owners

by Kitty Jellinek
Unfortunately a lot of small local businesses are suffering due to the internet revolution. This is due to the huge volume of consumers, who are turning to their various online devices; before making decisions concerning purchases of products and services. As a web developer I am aware of the problems facing both consumers and businesses, when dealing with the internet. Most small businesses today realize that they need an internet presence, to remain competitive. What most small business owners don’t realize is what having an “internet” presence entails. More importantly, most small business owners are not even aware of the […]

Here’s hoping you are all having a fine festive season. The following video has nothing to do with the Easter Bunny but I hope it brings you the same joy that I experienced whilst watching it:

In Rememberance of Anja Niedringhaus

by Kitty Jellinek
I was shocked to learn via my Twitter feed that Anja Niedringhaus was shot dead today at an Afghanistan checkpoint. Besides her award winning photography I will remember Anja for her indelibly good humored and tanactic spirit – even in tragic circumstances. My condolences go out to her family and friends – Anja portrays how I feel right now with her photograph: I will miss you Anja, thank you for the many joyous moments you brought to me – May you Rest In Peace – Kitty.

Australians losing $7 million a month in internet fraud

by Kitty Jellinek
It never ceases to amaze me, how scams like the Nigerian scam, survive for so long. It is hard to believe that people still fall for these scams – even ones that have been around and re-hashed for over a decade. I received the same email today [see copy below] as the one I got in 2001.   Federal Bureau of Investigation (Good News) Federal Bureau of Investigation [help@aubschools.com] Mon 31/03/2014 7:51 AM — Federal Bureau of Investigation Anti-Terrorist and Monitory Crime Division Edger Hoover Building Washington Dc Customers Service Hours / Monday to Saturday Office Hours Monday to Saturday: […]
