Short History of the World Part 3.

by Kitty Jellinek
Geologic time Geologic time, the extensive interval of time occupied by the Earth’s geologic history. It extends from about 3.9 billion years ago (corresponding to the age of the oldest known rocks) to the present day. It is, in effect, that segment of Earth history that is represented by and recorded in rock strata. The geologic time scale is the calendar for events in Earth history. It subdivides all time since the end of the Earth’s formative period as a planet (nearly 4 billion years ago) into named units of abstract time: the latter, in descending order of duration, are […]

Click here To Read Part 1. The Triassic Period — roughly 251 to 199 million years ago Around 245 million years ago the first dinosaurs appeared. This was during what geologists call the Triassic Period — the first period of the Mesozoic Era. Dinosaurs were reptiles and they had been preceded for millions of years by other reptiles on land. Conditions had allowed the survival of the larger reptiles, whose size helped them survive. These first dinosaurs were divided into various species. Wikipedia, under the heading “Triassic dinosaurs,” lists more than fifty different species. Scientists described them as having been […]

I was interested in History when I was at school but found it quite confusing. Firstly as I was living in Australia virtually all our history lessons covered mainly British history – the rest of the world was hardly mentioned. Secondly, the lessons were constructed in a non chronological order. That meant having to remember dates rather than getting a big picture of what events evolved around the world. I think, unless one gets an overall picture of events as they happened, it is difficult to make sense of any developmental outcome. Therefore for those who are interested I am […]

Don't worry if you've never heard of 3D printing. It's so new it's not on many radar screens yet. But soon everyone will know about it. Still in its very early stages, 3D printing is destined to have a huge impact on the entire world economy. These "desktop factories" will one day become a $1 trillion industry - completely changing the traditional factory model forever. It's what's known as a "disruptive technology."

Obama reaffirms stance against Iran

by Kitty Jellinek
A senior fellow at the Brookings Institution and former adviser to four presidents, Bruce Riedel, said he believed Mr Obama had made a mistake in declaring that his policy towards Iran was not to contain it, but to prevent it from developing nuclear weapons at all. “It boxes the United States into a position where it will either have to go to war with Iran if it does develop nuclear weapons or we will have to back down,” he said. Obama:Military Force Against Iran Possible To Thwart Nuclear Program

This could mean War with Iran

by Kitty Jellinek
Iranian threats to close the Strait of Hormuz, the narrow shipping channel through which 17 million barrels per day of Middle East oil exports pass, has put, for the moment, a war premium into the oil price. The Iranians are reacting, in part, to the continued shadow war on their nuclear program. That war claimed another Iranian scientist recently in a scene straight out of a James Bond film.
