When I looked up the term Local Community – Found the following definition:
A group of individuals that interact within their immediate surroundings. A typical local community consists of business operators, public agency staff and residents, and their interactions can include the sharing of resources, information and assistance, as well as the establishment of commercial relationships between local businesses and consumers.

However, what makes individuals interact with their immediate surroundings?
Could it be the warm fuzzy feeling people get when they feel that they belong that inspires them to interact in a useful way – in turn inspiring those within their vicinity to interact in the same way?
Or is it some catastrophic event like war, famine, flood, drought or fire that brings people together?
Common interests, cultures, languages and needs, are all strong magnets that pull groups of people together, who eventually create local communities.
“No man is an island unto himself” is an old saying, which many people don’t understand, till they are faced with a problem too great to handle on their own.
History has shown that people in strong knit local communities fare far better in bad times than people who are not part of a cohesive local community – just as members of functional families are better of than members of dysfunctional families.
Sharing and caring are integral traits of the members of a functional family as they are in a functioning local community. The antithesis is true of those with the traits of avarice.
What does local community mean to you?
